Registration

Registration of work is not mandatory for copyright establishment in Indonesia. In legal proceedings however, copyright registration is of much help for evidentiary purpose. Foreign works are protectable under Indonesian Copyright Law, provided they are first published either in a country party to the Bern Convention or in Indonesia.

Protectable Works

(Scientific, artistic and literary works)

  1. books, computer programs, pamphlets, published images of literary works and all other literary works;
  2. lectures, speeches and other works presented through verbal expression;
  3. visual aid made for educational and scientific purposes;
  4. musical works with/without lyrics;
  5. dramatic works, dances, choreographic works, puppet plays and pantomimes;
  6. fine arts : works of painting, drawing, engraving, sculpture, statue, calligraphy, collage and applied arts in form of hand works;
  7. works of architecture;
  8. maps;
  9. batik arts;
  10. photographic works;
  11. cinematographic works;
  12. translations, interpretations, adaptations, anthologies, database and other works of transformation.

Application Filing Requirements:

  1. Power of Attorney.
  2. Application form containing information of :
    • name, nationality and address of the Author(s);
    • name, nationality and address of the Applicant(s);
    • type, title, brief description of the work;
    • place and date of first publication.
  3. Drawings(s) of the works.
  4. Assignment document (if the applicant is not the author of the works itself).
